Group 1-

This two-day extension covers the Eastern parts of The Gambia on both the northern and southern parts of the River Gambia.  The Gambia’s population is mostly segregated in the West Coast.  However, this trip extension gives you insight into how the rural Gambians live.  We will go on a Gambian river cruise, stop on several islands in the River Gambia, and see many historical sites, including:

Wassu Circles- There are 93 stone circles in Senegal, Guinea, and The Gambia.  This UNESCO World Heritage site boasts multiple circles-mostly thought to be burial grounds, dating back to the 1st & 2nd millennia.  Definitely a site to see!

Georgetown (Janjanbureh)- an island in the middle of the River Gambia!  Wow!   We’ll stay overnight at an eco-lodge here.
